Evaluating the believability of agents in virtual worlds
نویسنده
چکیده
This article describes a method that can be used to evaluate the believability of agents in virtual world. The methodology uses observations as well as structured and informal descriptions to elucidate problematic and positive behaviours of agents. The use of the methodology is further described using examples from previous analyses, and the implications as well as practical necessities of the method are discussed.

Believable and Effective AI Agents in Virtual Worlds: Current State and Future Perspectives
The rapid development of complex virtual worlds (most notably, in 3D computer and video games) introduces new challenges for the creation of virtual agents, controlled by artificial intelligence (AI) systems. Two important subproblems in this topic area which need to be addressed are (a) believability and (b) effectiveness of agents’ behavior, i.e. human-likeness of the characters and high abil...
متن کاملBelievability and Interaction in Virtual Worlds
In this paper we present a discussion about believability for Virtual Environments, emotional simulation and also Embodied Conversational Agents (ECAs). We will discuss about the definition of believability and the three elements of believability environments (immersion, presentation and interaction). We also present a discussion about believability and interfaces. Finally, ECA, emotional and p...
متن کاملBelievable Agents in Intelligent Virtual Worlds
Believability is an important characteristic of intelligent virtual agents, however, very few attempts have been made to define and formalise it. This paper provides a formal analysis of believability, focused on diverse aspects of believability of the agents and the virtual environment they populate, approaching the problem from the perspective of the relations between the agents and the envir...

متن کاملTeaching Autonomous Agents to Move in a Believable Manner within Virtual Institutions
Believability of computerised agents is a growing area of research. This paper is focused on one aspect of believability believable movements of avatars in normative 3D Virtual Worlds called Virtual Institutions. It presents a method for implicit training of autonomous agents in order to ”believably” represent humans in Virtual Institutions. The proposed method does not require any explicit tra...
